Astoria, NY (August 14, 2025) – A devastating crash in Astoria, Queens on Tuesday morning claimed the lives of three people, including two pedestrians who were standing beside a local coffee truck.

According to reports, the collision happened around 8:30 a.m. on August 13 at the intersection of 19th Avenue and 42nd Street. Police say an 84-year-old man driving a Toyota Corolla was speeding when he blew through a stop sign and slammed into a parked coffee truck.

The Corolla then spun and struck a Volvo that was attempting a U-turn nearby. The elderly driver was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two men standing near the truck were also hit. Forty-one-year-old Joaquin Venancio died at the scene, while 70-year-old Santiago Baires was taken to the hospital and later died. Both men were beloved community members and known regulars at the food truck.
