Discovery Bay, CA (August 15, 2025) — A devastating head-on collision on Thursday morning in the Town of Discovery Bay resulted in one fatality and left another individual critically injured.
According to reports, the crash occurred around 10:19 a.m. on August 14 along State Route 4, just east of Discovery Bay Boulevard. Emergency crews from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded quickly, with Engine 99 reporting heavy vehicle damage by 10:30 a.m.
Preliminary investigations by the California Highway Patrol indicate that a Toyota Camry traveling eastbound crossed over the double-yellow lines and collided head-on with a westbound GMC Sierra. The driver of the Toyota, an adult male, died at the scene. The GMC driver, also an adult male, sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
DUI has been ruled out as a contributing factor, and the investigation remains ongoing.
