Bakersfield, CA (August 15, 2025) — A 65-year-old man riding a bicycle was killed early Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle in northwest Bakersfield.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 5:37 a.m. on August 14 at the intersection of Olive Drive and Fruitvale Avenue. California Highway Patrol officers responded to the crash, which involved a 2020 Chrysler 300 driven by a 57-year-old woman.
Preliminary findings indicate that the Chrysler was traveling eastbound on Olive Drive in the number two lane at roughly 45 to 50 miles per hour, with a green traffic signal. At the same time, the bicyclist attempted to cross Olive Drive heading southbound and entered the roadway through both westbound and eastbound lanes.
The bicyclist entered the path of the oncoming Chrysler and was struck. Emergency personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained on site and cooperated fully with investigators. Drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as factors for the driver.
The crash remains under investigation by CHP.
