Nanuet, NY (August 15, 2025) — A pedestrian was struck and killed early Friday morning on the New York State Thruway, marking the second fatal incident in the same stretch of roadway this week.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on August 15 on the northbound side of Interstate 87, just before Exit 14 for Nanuet. New York State Police confirmed that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim or provided details as to why the person was walking along the Thruway, where pedestrian access is prohibited. Preliminary reports indicate the driver involved was unaware of what they had hit at the time but did remain in the area.
This fatal crash occurred less than a mile from a separate deadly incident earlier this week, in which 47-year-old Steven Redner of Tallman was killed after his disabled vehicle was struck while partially blocking a lane on the same side of the highway.
State Police closed one northbound lane Friday morning to conduct their investigation into the most recent fatality.
