Rising Star, TX (August 16, 2025) — A rear-end crash involving a semi-truck and a compact SUV claimed the life of a 74-year-old man and left another person injured Thursday afternoon just outside Rising Star, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
According to reports, the fatal accident happened around 2:00 p.m. on August 14 along State Highway 36 near County Road 377. Authorities say a 2019 Kenworth T680 with a flatbed trailer, driven by 31-year-old Noel Enrique Torrez-Carrasco of Houston, failed to control its speed and slammed into the rear of a 2025 Chevrolet Trax that was stopped to yield for turning traffic.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Earl Morgan Wright, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 53-year-old Stacey Marie Wright of Rising Star, sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Harris Methodist in Fort Worth for treatment.
Officials confirmed that road and weather conditions were clear at the time. The crash remains under active investigation by the Texas DPS.
