Allegan County, MI (April 29, 2025) – A devastating crash between two trucks left one person dead and three others injured Saturday evening between Gobles and Allegan, authorities reported.
The collision occurred around 7:30 p.m. on April 26 near Baseline Road and Hillside Drive, east of M-40. According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, a westbound truck crossed the centerline, sideswiped an eastbound truck, then lost control and veered off the roadway. The westbound vehicle overturned and struck several individuals who were off the road before finally coming to rest in a shallow portion of nearby Baseline Lake.
Officials stated that two people who were struck were hospitalized, with one later succumbing to their injuries. The driver of the westbound truck and a passenger in the same vehicle were also hospitalized. Fortunately, those inside the eastbound truck were not injured.
Authorities indicated that both speed and alcohol appeared to be contributing factors. The crash remains under active investigation.
