Schuyler, NY (October 4, 2025) – One man was injured Friday morning in a collision involving a car and an Amish horse-drawn buggy on Cosby Manor Road in the town of Schuyler, Herkimer County.
According to the New York State Police, the crash occurred around 7:58 a.m. on October 3. A 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 45-year-old Matthew L. Walker of Remsen, was traveling westbound at an unsafe speed and following an Amish buggy too closely. While attempting to pass, Walker struck the buggy, ejecting both occupants.
One of the buggy passengers, 30-year-old Andy J. Troyer of Poland, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital. The second occupant, 40-year-old Moses J. Swartzentruber, also from Poland, was uninjured. The horse pulling the buggy was not harmed.
Walker, who was uninjured, was cited for multiple offenses, including driving without a license and operating without a court-ordered interlock device. Authorities confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
