Harwich, MA (September 13, 2025) – A Wednesday morning crash on the Cape Cod Rail Trail left one person with life-threatening injuries after a bicyclist struck a pedestrian near Pleasant Lake Avenue in Harwich.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, the incident occurred around 10:35 a.m. on September 11 near mile marker 5.6 of the trail, close to 522 Pleasant Lake Avenue. The Barnstable County Communications Center received a report of a bicycle crash, and first responders from both Brewster and Harwich Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene.
Brewster Fire Department was first to arrive and found two individuals injured, including one critically. Due to the severe entanglement, firefighters had to use specialized tools to extricate the bicycle. One person was airlifted by Boston MedFlight to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, while the other was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Massachusetts Environmental Police are leading the investigation.
