Raleigh, NC (August 15, 2025) — New details have emerged following a tragic boating accident on Harris Lake that killed a 10-year-old girl and severely injured a 41-year-old woman. Law enforcement has since upgraded charges against two individuals in connection with the fatal crash.
According to reports, the incident occurred on August 12 and involved a boat operated by 40-year-old Quinten Kight, who is now facing second-degree murder charges along with his girlfriend AnneMarie Flanigan, the owner of the boat. The boat reportedly crashed into a group of swimmers near an anchored vessel.
Brooklyn Mae Carroll, a 10-year-old elementary school student, was fatally struck, and Jennifer Stehle, a Wake County school social worker, suffered severe injuries.
Newly released warrants revealed evidence including video showing passengers tubing and consuming alcohol. Authorities also seized nearly 90 empty alcohol containers from and around the boat. Witnesses said Kight was seen looking down at his phone prior to the collision.
Although passengers reportedly blew zeros on field breathalyzer tests, the prosecution indicated Kight failed to follow instructions during a sobriety test. A warrant for his blood was issued, and lab results have been completed, though not yet made public.
Both Kight and Flanigan are being held on $500,000 secured bonds as the investigation and prosecution continue.
