Lake Powell, UT (July 16, 2025) — A Fourth of July outing on Lake Powell took a devastating turn when a teenager sustained serious injuries in a boating crash allegedly caused by an impaired operator near the Staton Creek camping area.
According to reports, rangers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources responded just before 6:30 p.m. after a collision involving two boats. Investigators determined that 44-year-old Jennifer Lynn Murillo of New Castle, Colorado, struck another vessel, ejecting a teen passenger from her own boat. The teen was then struck by the propeller, suffering catastrophic injuries to both legs.
Murillo was charged Tuesday in 6th District Court with multiple offenses, including DUI, negligently operating a vehicle resulting in injury, and several boating violations. Charging documents state her blood-alcohol content was 0.126% nearly two hours after the incident.
The injured teen’s current condition has not been disclosed. Authorities continue to investigate the crash as court proceedings move forward.
