BOWDOINHAM, ME (January 16, 2025) – Kaleb Halsey, 20, of Bowdoinham, died Wednesday morning from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday night on Route 28 in Woolwich.
According to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 10 p.m. when a deputy attempted to stop Halsey’s vehicle for erratic driving and speeding. Instead of stopping, Halsey allegedly accelerated in an attempt to evade the deputy.
The pursuit lasted 27 seconds and spanned approximately half a mile before Halsey lost control of his vehicle. The car veered off the road, struck a granite fence post, continued into a ditch, and collided with a telephone pole.
Halsey was initially transported by Woolwich EMS to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick and later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday morning.
Route 28 near Days Ferry was closed overnight for crash reconstruction and reopened around 9 a.m. Wednesday. The Maine State Police are leading the ongoing investigation.
