According to reports, Rhode Island State Police said a box truck struck a car that was attempting to exit the highway. The impact forced both vehicles to veer left and slam into the center concrete barrier, ultimately coming to rest in the high-speed lane. The truck ended up perched on the barrier, leaning into the southbound lanes while partially resting on top of the car it struck.
