According to reports, the crash happened on August 11 near the intersection of Lakeside Drive and U.S. Highway 501 northbound. The Lynchburg Police Department said the vehicle veered off the road for reasons that have not yet been determined.
Emergency personnel responded promptly, and crews from the Lynchburg Fire Department extricated the female driver, who was the only person inside the vehicle at the time. She was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital in critical condition, though officials later confirmed her status had been upgraded to stable.
The northbound lanes of the expressway were shut down for a period as authorities worked at the scene, with one lane reopening before the full roadway was cleared.
