News sources show that the crash occurred at approximately 6:19 p.m. on June 14 at the intersection of State Route 262 and Fisher Road. A Ford pickup truck driven by 34-year-old Chad Bruning of Byron was traveling westbound when it collided with a Hyundai operated by 47-year-old Wesley Ditton of Apalachin. Authorities report that the Hyundai entered the intersection and was struck on the driver side by the Ford.
Both vehicles veered off the south shoulder of the highway following the impact. Ditton sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted by Mercy Flight for emergency treatment. Bruning suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
