Portage, MI (August 28, 2025) – A school day began with an unexpected crash in Portage when a vehicle rear-ended a stopped school bus on Wednesday morning.
According to the Michigan State Police, the incident occurred just after 8 a.m. on August 27, 2025, along the eastbound lanes of Centre Avenue near Newells Lane. Officials from the Portage Department of Public Safety reported that the Portage Public Schools bus was stationary when it was struck from behind by an eastbound vehicle.
There were six students aboard the bus at the time. Fortunately, none of the children reported injuries. Emergency responders evaluated the driver of the striking vehicle, a 53-year-old man from Kalamazoo, for minor injuries at the scene.
