San Jose, CA (October 31, 2025) – Christian Herbert Hygelund, 81, of Los Gatos, has been identified as the second fatality in a deadly crash that occurred Saturday afternoon, October 25, near Foxworthy Avenue and Jarvis Avenue in San Jose. He passed away Wednesday, October 29, from injuries sustained in the collision.

According to the San Jose Police Department, Hygelund was driving a white 2018 GMC Yukon eastbound on Foxworthy Avenue when he attempted to pass a green 2018 Subaru Forester. His vehicle sideswiped the Subaru and veered into oncoming traffic, striking a blue 2012 Honda CRV head-on.

The Honda’s driver, 74-year-old Ellen Jo Orcutt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hygelund was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.

Authorities suspect that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
