Lane County, OR (September 3, 2025) – A tragic hit-and-run accident in Lane County claimed the life of 22-year-old Dakota Blue Gilbert early Sunday morning.
According to the Oregon State Police, the deadly collision occurred around 5:59 a.m. on August 31 at the intersection of Highway 126 and Huston Road. Authorities say Gilbert, a resident of Veneta, was walking in the roadway when he was struck by an eastbound SUV.
The SUV did not stop and fled the scene. Gilbert was pronounced dead at the location by first responders.
Investigators are searching for the driver and suspect vehicle, which has been described as a light-colored 2010–2013 Chevrolet Equinox. It likely has noticeable front-end damage, sits low to the ground, and may still be operational.
