Hopkinton, MA (October 24, 2024) – A late-night crash on Tuesday that involved three passenger vehicles and a tractor-trailer on the Massachusetts Turnpike resulted in one fatality, according to Hopkinton Fire Chief Gary Daugherty.

The accident occurred around 11:40 p.m. near the Hopkinton-Westborough border, a location Chief Daugherty described as “tricky” due to its alternating jurisdiction and ongoing construction. The Massachusetts State Police confirmed that troopers from the Charlton Barracks responded to the scene on Interstate 90 West.

One individual, identified as 48-year-old David Fencil of Calvert City, Kentucky, was transported to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries. Some reports indicate that the name could be David Frencl. The Westborough Fire Department extricated Fencil from the vehicle.

Two others involved in the crash were transferred to UMass Medical Center in Worcester with minor injuries, according to Chief Daugherty. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
