Cambria County, PA (October 5, 2024) – Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees has confirmed that 18-year-old David Swinger of Lilly was the victim killed in a crash involving a car and a school bus on Thursday morning. The accident occurred on Gallitzin Road (Route 53) in Gallitzin Township around 7:39 a.m.
According to reports, Swinger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died instantly from severe chest trauma. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to UPMC Altoona with injuries. The driver of the school bus, who was the only occupant, was not injured. Emergency responders from Gallitzin, Keystone Regional, Ashville, and Loretto fire departments, as well as Cambria Alliance EMS, Ebensburg EMS, and Pennsylvania State Police, were on the scene. Route 53 was temporarily closed but has since been reopened. The crash remains under investigation by local police and the coroner’s office.
