Dayton, TX (May 29, 2025) – A tragic crash involving two commercial vehicles shut down a major roadway Wednesday morning and resulted in the death of a Houston man.

According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 10:58 a.m. on May 28 at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1960 and County Road 608. Dayton police and emergency crews responded swiftly to the scene of the violent head-on collision involving an 18-wheeler with a cargo trailer and a commercial roll-off truck.

Investigators say the 18-wheeler had been traveling westbound on FM 1960 when the eastbound roll-off truck lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic. The impact critically injured the 18-wheeler’s driver, 63-year-old Lawrence Al James of Houston. He was rushed to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The roll-off truck’s driver and passenger, identified as 53-year-old Gloria Braxton and 53-year-old Oscar Gonzalez-Enrique, also of Houston, were injured and transported to Kingwood Hospital. Their conditions remain undisclosed.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. FM 1960 remained closed for several hours as authorities cleared debris and conducted a full on-site examination.
