Stanley, NC (December 31, 2025) — A devastating house fire in Gaston County has claimed the life of Dennis Hamlin, father of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, and left Mary Lou Hamlin, Denny’s mother, in critical condition.
According to the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal, firefighters were dispatched late Sunday night, December 28, to a two-story residence near Stanley that was already consumed in flames. Responding units reported heavy fire through the attic and partial collapse of the structure. Dennis Hamlin, 75, and Mary Lou Hamlin, 69, were both found outside the residence with catastrophic injuries.
Dennis Hamlin succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital. Mary Lou Hamlin remains in critical care at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston-Salem. The fire remains under investigation by local and state fire officials.
