The Villages, FL (October 19, 2024) — An elderly pedestrian was tragically killed early Saturday while attempting to cross a busy roadway in Summerfield.
The accident occurred on southbound U.S. 441 at Southeast 172nd Street. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the victim, a 74-year-old man from Sebring, was crossing U.S. 441 from west to east when he was struck by a southbound Kia Forte. The vehicle was driven by a 44-year-old woman from Ocala who was on her way to work.
The driver stopped immediately after the crash and called 911. A family member arrived at the scene to comfort her as she was visibly shaken.
FHP officials are investigating whether any other vehicles may have hit the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The area was dark at the time of the crash, and there were no streetlights in that location. Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the call at 6:46 a.m.
