Lewiston, ME (August 20, 2025) – A Cambridge woman was tragically killed Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle that jumped a curb near Kennedy Park in Lewiston.
According to reports, the Lewiston Police Department said the incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. on August 15 along Park Street. Elizabeth Camacho, a Cambridge resident visiting Maine, was walking near City Hall when a Buick suddenly mounted the curb and entered Kennedy Park, hitting her.
Camacho was rushed to Central Maine Medical Center before being airlifted to Maine Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. The driver, 31-year-old Lionel Francisco of Angola, was operating the vehicle with a learner’s permit. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities confirmed that Francisco was later detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Lewiston Police Accident Reconstruction Team and Criminal Investigation Division are continuing their investigation into the fatal crash.
