Emma Huckleberry Killed in Wrong-Way Crash in Tempe, AZ — Loop 202 Near Priest Dr (August 11, 2025)

Tempe, AZ (August 14, 2025) – A young woman was killed early Monday morning in a violent wrong-way crash on Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near Priest Drive, authorities confirmed.

According to reports, the fatal crash occurred just after midnight on August 11. The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) identified the victim as 21-year-old Emma Huckleberry of Waddell. She was driving a Kia passenger car westbound on Loop 202 when a 44-year-old man, operating a Subaru SUV in the wrong direction, crashed into her vehicle head-on.

The wrong-way driver had already sideswiped a Hyundai before colliding with Huckleberry’s car. The Subaru overturned and landed on its roof after the impact.

Huckleberry was pronounced dead at the scene. The Subaru driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the Hyundai fled on foot and abandoned the vehicle nearby. Authorities suspect impairment played a role in the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
