Farmington, CT (January 13, 2025) – A deadly crash involving multiple vehicles shut down both directions of Interstate 84 for seven hours Sunday night, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
Connecticut State Police confirmed the victim as 29-year-old Eloi Batista Da Silva. The crash occurred around 6:06 p.m. near exit 36 on the eastbound side of I-84.
Authorities said Da Silva’s vehicle was struck by another driver, causing it to cross over the median into westbound traffic, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving six vehicles. Da Silva succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The individuals in the other vehicles sustained minor injuries. The driver who struck Da Silva fled the scene but was later located. That driver was uninjured, and authorities have not disclosed whether charges will be filed.
The interstate was closed between exits 37 and 36 for several hours as investigators worked to clear the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
