Chambers County, TX (August 2, 2025) — A deadly crash involving an SUV and an 18-wheeler brought westbound traffic on Interstate 10 to a standstill in Chambers County on the evening of August 1. The collision left one passenger dead and the driver of the SUV in critical condition.
According to reports, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene around 5:50 p.m. near mile marker 818 in Hankamer. Investigators say a 1993 Chevrolet Suburban was towing a trailer in the outside westbound lane when it was rear-ended by a truck tractor semi-trailer. The impact caused the SUV to spin and collide with the side of the truck tractor before coming to rest atop a concrete barrier, facing east.
The Suburban’s driver was taken to a hospital in Beaumont with potentially life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to a hospital in Houston, where they succumbed to their injuries. Their identity has not yet been released.
The driver of the semi-truck was unharmed. Interstate 10 fully reopened shortly before 10 p.m.
