Canandaigua, NY (August 29, 2025) – A tragic crash involving a box truck and SUV claimed the life of a 40-year-old man Wednesday morning at the intersection of State Route 5&20, Hickox Road, and Cooley Road in Ontario County.
According to Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred just before 11 a.m. on August 27. Jonathan Stills, of Lima, was driving a box truck westbound on 5&20 when he allegedly ran a red light and collided with an SUV driven by 29-year-old Kassandra Yankanich of Canandaigua. The impact sent the box truck into a utility pole where it became tangled in wires.
Stills was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors, though toxicology results are still pending.
Yankanich was not injured, but a child passenger in her SUV was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with shoulder pain. Emergency responders from Cheshire Fire, Canandaigua Emergency Squad, and New York State Police assisted at the scene, which remained closed for several hours.
