Knoxville, TN (July 24, 2025) – A tragic collision in the early hours of Sunday left one woman dead and another man injured after a Ford Mustang slammed into a Nissan Altima in Knoxville.
According to reports, the crash occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. on July 20 at the intersection of Western Avenue and Keith Avenue. Knoxville Police Department officers arrived to find a severely damaged white Nissan Altima and a silver Ford Mustang. Investigators say the Mustang was traveling at a high speed when it struck the Altima.
A 78-year-old woman riding in the Altima died at the scene. The driver of the Altima, a 58-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the Mustang, 21-year-old Kevin Zaragoza of Knoxville, was also treated for injuries before being taken into custody. Witnesses stated Zaragoza had been speeding before the crash and showed signs of intoxication. He now faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide by intoxication, vehicular assault, and DUI.
