Sioux Falls, SD (June 5, 2025) — A well-known local musician and activist tragically lost his life in a two-vehicle crash just west of Sioux Falls on June 2.
According to reports, 50-year-old Casey Joe Wilson of Flandreau was driving a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan westbound on Interstate 90 when his vehicle struck the rear of a 2015 Ford F-350 construction truck that was stopped in the right lane with active warning signals. The crash occurred around 9:06 a.m. near mile marker 394. The impact forced the truck into the median, where it caught fire. Wilson’s van came to rest on the westbound shoulder.
Authorities reported Wilson was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford truck suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Wilson was a prominent figure in Sioux Falls’ country music scene as part of The Barn Flies and an advocate for custody law reform. Visitation and funeral services have been scheduled at Flandreau High School.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
