Bexar County, TX (July 16, 2025) — A devastating crash early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a man after his vehicle burst into flames following a collision in west Bexar County.

According to reports, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene just before 6:30 a.m. on July 15 along the northbound lanes of Loop 1604 near Marbach Road. Investigators say a vehicle attempted to pass a Toyota 4Runner when the Toyota driver accelerated, passed the other vehicle, and then tried to merge back into the lane. The two vehicles collided, pushing both into the median where the Toyota struck an overpass concrete pillar and immediately caught fire.

The 50-year-old driver of the Toyota 4Runner was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. No additional injuries have been reported at this time, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the cause of the collision.
