Howard County, TX (October 7, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Cheri Lynette Haechten and left a young passenger injured Monday morning in Howard County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred around 6:40 a.m. on October 6 at the intersection of Brian Road and U.S. Highway 87. Haechten, a resident of Big Spring, was behind the wheel of a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander and had stopped at the intersection, preparing to make a southbound turn onto US 87.
Investigators say Haechten failed to yield the right-of-way and was struck by a northbound 2025 Ford F-250. Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash.
Haechten was rushed to Scenic Mountain Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. A 13-year-old passenger in her vehicle was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Ford was not hurt.
The crash remains under active investigation.
