According to reports, the incident happened along the northbound lanes near milepost 9. Washington State Patrol officials stated that two vehicles were traveling north when one driver, reportedly speeding, rear-ended the other vehicle.
The 36-year-old man, who authorities have not yet publicly identified pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene. WSP noted that it remains unclear whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time. The other driver involved was properly restrained and did not suffer any injuries.
