Knoxville, TN (July 21, 2025) – A devastating early morning crash left one woman dead and another person injured following a two-vehicle collision on the city’s west side.
According to reports, the Knoxville Police Department responded to the intersection of Western Avenue and Keith Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 21. Investigators determined that a speeding Ford Mustang, driven by 21-year-old Kevin Zaragoza, collided with a Nissan Altima carrying two occupants.
Tragically, a 78-year-old woman riding as a passenger in the Altima died at the scene. The 58-year-old male driver was transported to a hospital for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Zaragoza, who showed signs of intoxication and was reported by witnesses to have been speeding, was treated for crash-related injuries and then booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.
Zaragoza faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide by intoxication, vehicular assault, and driving under the influence. The investigation remains ongoing.
