Madison County, IN (July 5, 2025) — A collision near Fairmount claimed the life of a woman and left five others injured, including two children, Thursday afternoon, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

According to reports, the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on July 3 at the intersection of County Road 1900 North and County Road 200 West. Deputies said 54-year-old Linda Cox of Frankton failed to yield at the intersection when her truck collided with a car driven by 34-year-old Rebecca Madley of Harford City.

Cox was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in Cox’s truck — a 39-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman — were both airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The man was listed in stable condition by Friday, while the woman remained in critical condition.

Rebecca Madley was flown to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition. Her two daughters, ages 10 and 13, were also in the car and sustained injuries. The 13-year-old has since been released from the hospital, while the younger child remains hospitalized with multiple broken bones.

Multiple emergency agencies responded to the crash, and the intersection was closed for several hours as crews worked to assist victims and investigate what led up to the impact. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the circumstances of this tragic collision.
