According to reports, Oregon State Police responded to the crash just before 8 a.m. on August 21 near milepost 47. Investigators say 48-year-old Barry Thomas Hostler of Truckee, California, was driving a Subaru Legacy northbound when he struck the rear of a slow-moving Case International 7220 tractor operated by 67-year-old Jesse Dean White of Jordan Valley.

Hostler suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. White was not injured, according to police.

The highway remained partially closed for approximately three hours while officials conducted an on-site investigation. Oregon Department of Transportation and the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
