News sources show that the Phoenix Fire Department responded around 6 a.m. on August 3 to a crash near the intersection of 57th Avenue and Indian School Road. Multiple vehicles were involved in the incident, and one person was reportedly trapped inside a car upon emergency crews’ arrival.
Officials confirmed that 44-year-old Phyliss Wauneka was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual, Antonio Wauneka, was transported to a local hospital in extremely critical condition but later died from his injuries.
Investigators believe Phyliss was attempting to cross Indian School Road northbound from 57th Avenue when their vehicle was hit. Speed is suspected to have played a role. The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash.
