St. Louis, MI (December 7, 2025) – Authorities are investigating a fatal accident that occurred late Friday night, December 5, when a vehicle veered off the road and into the Pine River in the city of St. Louis.
According to the Michigan State Police, the crash wasn’t discovered until around 8:08 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, when a passerby noticed a damaged guardrail near the west side of North Main Street, just south of Prospect Street. Responding officers found no signs of a vehicle or escape tracks nearby but suspected that a car had gone over the edge.
By 10:20 a.m., the Alma Fire Department’s dive team located a submerged vehicle in about 15 feet of water. Due to poor visibility, they could not confirm the vehicle’s contents. Gratiot Towing later pulled the vehicle from the river at approximately 1:29 p.m., where responders discovered one person deceased inside.
The St. Louis Police Department confirmed the identity of the deceased but is withholding the name pending family notification. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
