Rhea County, TN (January 10, 2026) – A tragic two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning at the intersection of Highway 27 and Highway 68 claimed the life of one man and left a child injured in Rhea County.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the collision occurred just before sunrise on January 8, near Spring City. A 1997 Ford THL, driven by 28-year-old Robert T. Chapman of Tennessee, was traveling northbound on Highway 68 when it entered the intersection with Highway 27. Authorities say Chapman failed to yield to a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup already in the intersection, leading to a severe crash.
Chapman was fatally injured in the wreck. The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 42-year-old man, was unhurt. However, a 5-year-old child riding in the pickup sustained injuries.
