Lafayette County, FL (September 22, 2025) – Tragedy struck in Lafayette County on the afternoon of Friday, September 20, when a violent two-vehicle collision left two juveniles dead and multiple others seriously injured.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:07 p.m. along U.S. Highway 27 during heavy rain. A 23-year-old woman from Mayo was driving a sedan northbound when she lost control, veering into the southbound lane. Her vehicle was then struck by a marked Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office SUV driven by a 45-year-old man.
Seven individuals were in the sedan: the female driver, a 22-year-old male passenger, and five children ages 5 to 15. Only one child—a 10-year-old girl—was wearing a seatbelt. The 22-year-old man and four children were ejected during the crash. A 15-year-old boy died at the scene, while a 13-year-old girl passed away later at the hospital.
All victims, except the driver of the sedan, were transported to UF Health. The sedan driver was taken to HCA Florida Live Oak Hospital. The sheriff’s deputy sustained serious injuries.
