McHenry County, IL (June 28, 2025) – A tragic series of separate crashes claimed the lives of three people, including an 11-year-old child, and left another person seriously injured in McHenry County within just 12 hours.
According to reports, the first collision occurred around 6:40 p.m. on June 23 when a 2016 Ford Transit Van traveling north on Deerpass Road failed to stop at the intersection of Kishwaukee Valley Road and struck a 2012 Audi Q5 SUV in unincorporated Marengo. The impact seriously injured a 29-year-old Wonder Lake man driving the Audi and tragically killed an 11-year-old child who was a passenger.
Hours later, at about 6 a.m. on June 24, a 2011 Dodge Ram traveling east on Kishwaukee Valley Road near Hughes Road in unincorporated Woodstock crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into a 2023 Mack semi-trailer truck. The driver of the Dodge, identified as 50-year-old Donald Markham of Belvidere, died at the scene.
Just before 7 a.m. the same day, a 1997 GMC Sierra was headed east on Hebron Road near U.S. Route 13 in unincorporated Harvard when it left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned. The driver, 35-year-old Omar Estrada-Escobar of Harvard, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations into all three crashes are ongoing.
