According to reports, the incident occurred near the intersection of South Ashland Avenue and West Cullerton Street. Authorities say 22-year-old Marcela Herrera and her fiancé, 21, were walking along Ashland Avenue after leaving the nearby Tacos Y Tamales Festival when they were hit by a silver vehicle that fled the scene.
Herrera was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Her fiancé remains hospitalized in serious condition.
