El Paso, TX (September 9, 2025) — A tragic overnight incident in central El Paso claimed the life of a longtime TSA employee after a hit-and-run early Sunday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, David Carmine O’Conner, 52, was struck by a vehicle while riding his electric-assisted bicycle near the intersection of Pershing Drive and Leeds Avenue at approximately 1:38 a.m. on September 8. Prior to being hit, O’Conner had reportedly been involved in a separate crash and was thrown from his bicycle. Authorities say the driver of a gray or silver car, possibly a Kia, struck him from behind and fled the scene without rendering aid.
The victim, a Transportation Security Officer at El Paso International Airport since 2002, was pronounced dead at the scene. This marks El Paso’s 42nd traffic-related death in 2025.
