Somerton, AZ (August 6, 2025) — A violent multi-vehicle collision on Friday night in Somerton claimed the life of one driver and left multiple others injured, according to local authorities.
According to reports, the crash occurred around 8:46 p.m. on August 1 along South Avenue G. Officials say a black Ford Mustang, driven by 35-year-old Jose Manuel Castellanos, veered into the path of oncoming traffic and first struck a Toyota Venza before crashing head-on into a Ford Expedition.
Castellanos, a Somerton resident, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
Of the four occupants in the Expedition, two were hospitalized with serious injuries at Onvida Health Yuma Regional Medical Center. One of them was later airlifted to a trauma center in Phoenix for treatment of a head injury. The four individuals in the Toyota Venza were unharmed.
Somerton police indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
