Aurora, CO (August 1, 2025) — Authorities have issued a summons to a 19-year-old driver following a devastating crash that claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy in Aurora over the weekend.
According to reports, the crash occurred at 10:09 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, along East Iliff Avenue near the Cherry Creek Spillway Crossing. The Aurora Police Department stated that the child was riding an electric scooter and had activated the crosswalk’s red signal, which stops both directions of traffic. As he proceeded through the marked crosswalk, he was struck by a vehicle driven by Christopher Ramirez-Rodriguez of Aurora, who allegedly failed to stop at the red light.
Bystanders rushed to aid the boy until emergency responders arrived. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors; however, distracted driving is being considered.
Ramirez-Rodriguez remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. On Friday, he was issued a summons for careless driving resulting in death. Formal charges will be determined by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
