According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. on December 24 along Route M, west of Stoney Gap Road in the Taos area. An 85-year-old man and an 86-year-old woman, both from Jefferson City, were crossing the roadway when they were struck by a Honda Accord driven by a 16-year-old male, also from Jefferson City.

The man was transported to Capital Region Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The woman sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia for emergency treatment. The teenage driver was not injured.
