Spanaway, WA (June 11, 2025) – A 42-year-old man died Tuesday morning after his motorized scooter collided with an abandoned shopping cart on the shoulder of northbound State Route 7, just south of 197th Court East, according to the Washington State Patrol.
According to reports, the crash occurred around 10:07 a.m. on June 10. Trooper John Dattilo stated that the man was traveling northbound when his 2025 Apollo motorized scooter struck a shopping cart that had been left on the right shoulder. He was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews, including fire personnel, responded swiftly to the scene, but the man was unresponsive upon arrival and was later pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.
The crash caused traffic disruptions in the area, with vehicles being directed through the center turn lane. State Route 7 was fully reopened after a closure lasting just over two hours.
