Fremont County, ID (July 5, 2025) — A two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a minivan left one child dead and several others injured along U.S. Highway 20 south of Island Park on Friday morning.
According to reports, the fatal collision occurred around 11:43 a.m. on July 4 near milepost 380.8. Idaho State Police said a 40-year-old man from Shelley was driving a 2026 Freightliner semi-truck westbound on US20 when the truck veered off the shoulder. The driver overcorrected, causing the semi to cross the median and crash into an eastbound 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan carrying a 42-year-old male driver and multiple passengers from Idaho Falls.
The impact caused the minivan to overturn, blocking the eastbound lanes for hours. All occupants in the Toyota, including four adults and three juveniles, were transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. One juvenile passenger sadly succumbed to their injuries. The semi-truck driver was also hospitalized with injuries.
Emergency crews from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Island Park Fire Department, Island Park Ambulance, Ashton Ambulance, and Hebgen Lake Paramedics from West Yellowstone, Montana, assisted at the scene. Traffic was fully blocked in both directions for about five hours while troopers investigated and cleared the wreckage.
