Utah (September 2, 2025) – A semi-truck driver lost his life Monday afternoon after a deadly crash along US Highway 89 involving a load of wood chips and a violent cab separation.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 12:45 p.m. on September 1, when a northbound 2025 Kenworth semi-truck hauling wood chips veered off US-89 into rugged terrain. The truck’s trailer overtook the cab during the off-road descent, causing a catastrophic dislodgement of the truck’s cab from its frame.
The cab was then violently propelled into an unattended vehicle parked along the shoulder. The owner of the parked vehicle was nearby and witnessed the aftermath.
Lieutenant Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol confirmed that the sole occupant of the semi-truck was pronounced dead at the scene. First responders found the victim unresponsive upon arrival. The incident remains under investigation.
