Ellsworth County, KS (January 13, 2026) – A deadly crash involving two vehicles claimed the life of a California woman Friday afternoon on K 14 Highway in Ellsworth County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 4:45 p.m. on January 9 near mile marker 149 just north of Avenue Q. Authorities say 54-year-old Stephanie Stevens of Rio Vista, California, was driving a Chevrolet Equinox when her SUV began to spin counterclockwise on the highway. While spinning, the vehicle was struck head-on by a Ford F 350 pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction.
Stevens, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene from her injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 47-year-old Mark Huseman of Ellsworth, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered suspected minor injuries. He was treated at the scene.
