Harris County, TX (October 5, 2025) – A tragic worksite incident in Harris County claimed the life of a road crew worker and left another seriously injured Thursday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred just before 10:00 a.m. on October 2 in the 100 block of Monmouth Street. Authorities say a group of men was repaving the northbound lanes when an 18-wheeler traveling westbound lost a tire from one of its wheels.
The tire reportedly struck William Burns, one of the crew members, before crashing into a paving machine. It then fatally struck 35-year-old Jose Bonilla and seriously injured Israel Medellin, another crew member on site. The tire ultimately collided with an unoccupied Chevrolet Tahoe parked nearby.
Bonilla was pronounced dead at the scene. Medellin was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Burns’ condition has not been disclosed. Investigations remain ongoing.
